Harpeth Valley Utilities District Engineering

Harpeth Valley Utilities District Engineering Services
Nashville, Tennessee

BWSC has provided services for the Harpeth Valley Utilities District for nearly 50 years, starting with helping Moreau P. Estes and others plan the district’s creation in 1959. The utility was started without any grants, by obtaining financing secured with the collateral from prepaid taps. The utility grew and now has more than 380 miles of water lines and 200 miles of sewer lines serving West Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin and several other communities.

BWSC projects over the years have included water and sewer lines, booster and lift stations, water storage tanks, annual rate studies, financial analysis for capital improvements, water treatment plant (along with several expansions), and most recently the design for a new 10-MGD wastewater treatment plant and pump station on the Cumberland River.

The 10-MGD wastewater treatment plant (with a hydraulic peak of 25 MGD) is situated beside the Cumberland River in West Nashville. The plant uses 100% aerobic treatment and on-site land application of biosolids. BWSC also designed a 25MGD pump station to pump waste underneath the river to the plant. BWSC helped pre-qualify five construction contracts and provided site representation and project management. The plant went on line 10 days ahead of schedule.
