Church Street and Capitol Blvd. Reconstruction

Church Street and Capitol Blvd. Reconstruction
Nashville, Tennessee

This project renewed and transformed two of Nashville’s most important downtown streets. The overall objectives were to reinvigorate the urban life on Church and Capitol and enhance the flow of vehicular and pedestrian movement. The project reworked the traffic flow, roadway alignment, and pedestrian ways, and installed new streetscape features, lighting and plantings. Wider sidewalks, improved crosswalk delineations, and audible crossing signals enhanced pedestrian safety. The project was complicated by the street’s historic buildings, maze of underground utilities, and multiplicity of stakeholders. The project won an Excellence in Development Merit Award in 2006.
