As part of a joint venture, BWSC and contractor Walbridge of Detroit, MI, fulfilled a $146 million design/build contract at Fort Stewart, GA, under a Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC). The project involved the design and construction of six separate project sites for an Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Each site contained a Company Operations Facility, Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facility, hazardous storage building, and other support structures. The six project sites and related buildings were customized based on individual unit requirements and unit size. The design for the project involved 6 phases, 36 buildings, and over 2,000 drawing sheets, all completed on time within 270 days. The design approach was to integrate the projects to have minimal effect upon the remainder of the campus. A "Best Value" philosophy was applied where more durable and functional options were provided over the minimum quality stipulations that were not considered to be as long-lasting. The final design concept incorporated LEED strategies for sustainable design.
Key Points:
- Design involved 6 phases, 36 buildings, and over 2,000 drawing sheets
- Utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) design
- Designed to LEED Silver sustainable design level
- Extensive road, parking, drainage, and utility work
