The success of Dell Inc. — one of the world’s most successful computer hardware manufacturers — is due in large part to its focus on speed and a just-in-time delivery system. When Dell builds a new facility, they expect the same focus out of their design and construction team. BWSC has provided MPE engineering for Dell facilities at several locations, providing power supply, emergency backup power, arc studies, lighting, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression and security.

Dell Manufacturing and Data Center, Lebanon, TN
BWSC provided MPE as part of a fast-track design/build project for Dell’s first facility in Tennessee. The design/build team built-out and expanded a spec building (270,000-SF build-out and 132,000-SF expansion) into a high-tech manufacturing facility and data center, completing the project in 90 days. BWSC services included design of work spaces, mezzanine, cafeteria and ancillary spaces; coordination of electrical, plumbing and HVAC design with Dell’s in-house engineers; and electrical design for power supply and emergency power systems. The emergency power systems consisted of a primary alternate source transfer scheme with reclosers performing the switching. A 500 KW, 480 Volt, 3-phase generator and automatic transfer switch provide the emergency and standby power needs primarily for the data center, but also for the life safety loads in the plant and office. The facility has three PDUs and circuits arranged to supply hot backup to servers and equipment accepting redundant supply circuits. The data center has integrated emergency power circuits, fire suppression, and alarm system.

Dell Manufacturing Facility, Winston-Salem, NC
BWSC provided mechanical and electrical engineering for a fast-track 790,000-SF manufacturing and distribution facility. The $100 million project is Dell’s largest facility. In addition to the facility engineering, BWSC provided design for a compressed air system and process support power distribution and low-voltage electrical services for a Tier II Mission Critical data center.

Dell Data Center, Reno, NV
BWSC provided MPE engineering and architectural services for the modification of an existing warehouse into a distribution hub with a Tier I data center at Dell's Reno, Nevada facility.
