With a community park in a disadvantaged area of town in need of improvements, BWSC met with city and county school officials, neighborhood representatives and city parks personnel to develop a needs assessment and master plan for a facility that makes the community proud. The new center includes two swimming pools, wading pool, water slide, interactive play structures, racquetball courts, auditorium, locker rooms, fitness and aerobics areas, indoor jogging track, and two gymnasiums in separate areas for youth and adult activities. In addition to the recreation features, the center provides social and cultural services with a 400-seat theater (complete with ticket booth, prop room, and dressing rooms), library, and conference rooms that can flex between one and three rooms. The site development plan included an arts education addition to the adjacent elementary school and a new boulevard entrance to the park and facility.
