Nashville, TN—The Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association (TN APWA) has selected Ridley Park in Columbia, Tennessee, as the Project of the Year for 2011. The park provides the City of Columbia with fields for girls’ fast-pitch softball, adult men’s charge league and adult men’s open league softball, co-ed open league softball, and adult kickball. Barge, Waggoner, Sumner, and Cannon, Inc. (BWSC) provided the City of Columbia with master planning, design, engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, and construction administration for the project. The master plan was completed in 2005 and construction was completed in April 2011.
Selection criteria for the award included demonstration of good construction techniques, schedule adherence, safety performance, community relations, protection of the environment, adverse conditions present, and exceptional efforts demonstrated. The City of Columbia was pleased with the end result and the park opened for use in the spring of this year.
Ridley Park is a success story involving many players including the City of Columbia officials, designers, engineers, landowners, and the citizens of Columbia. Over the summer, the City held four youth baseball tournaments and ten adult softball tournaments at the park drawing over 5,000 spectators. Ridley Park is a winner in more ways than one. |
