Tri-Cities, TN – Jennifer Salyer, ASLA has been appointed to the Tree and Landscaping Board of Johnson City for a term of three years. The Tree and Landscaping Board advises the city Commissioners on promotion and management of the urban forest and the overall appearance of Johnson City. Board members support a variety of community events and initiatives such as Earth Day, Arbor Day, Days of Service, and activities with the local schools. They also pursue awards including the Tree City USA Growth Award, and the Keep Tennessee Beautiful Award.
The Tree and Landscaping Board is involved in small landscaping/tree planting projects around the city and provide input on improvements to greenways and trails. A current initiative is the 10,000 Trees program, an effort to plant 10,000 trees in Johnson City. As part of this effort, 1,800 trees were given away in the spring of this year with a second giveaway scheduled for November.
Ms. Salyer has served as landscape architect on many projects including the Tommy Schumpert Park in Knoxville and Darrell’s Dream Boundless Playground at Warrior’s Path State Park. For further information, please contact Paula Harris.
