Knoxville, TN— The Advanced Microscopy Laboratory (AML) at Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) in Oak Ridge has received LEED certification according to the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Designed by Barge, Waggoner, Sumner, and Cannon, Inc. (BWSC) in 2009, the AML is a world-leading facility housing four aberration-corrected Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopes (STEM) able to view particles at the atomic level. The BWSC team received a Certificate of Appreciation from UT-Battelle, operating contractor for the AML, and ORNL in 2010 for work performed on the project.
The AML is the eighth BWSC project to receive LEED certification. Others include the Detroit Arsenal Administrative Building and Parking Garage, the Fort Bliss Dining Facility, the Child Development Center at Marshall Space Flight Center, Honda Aircraft Global Headquarters and Research and Development Building, Moffett Field AFRC, Tennessee Bankers Association Headquarters, and the Scripps Networks Expansion. |
