Nashville, TN — George Kurz, PE, DEE, in the Water Services business unit of Barge, Waggoner, Sumner, and Cannon, Inc. (BWSC) in Nashville has had two papers selected for presentation at the upcoming 2012 No-Dig Show of the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) in Nashville next March. The conference is one of two main conferences conducted for the trenchless and underground technology industry. There are only 130 presentations accepted annually as part of the conference.
The abstracts concern two BWSC projects – the Sewer Rehabilitation Program for the City of Brentwood, Tennessee and the Nashville 96-inch Brick CSO Outfall Relining. Both projects had aspects of interest to the industry. The Brentwood project was a highly successful trenchless project that showcases a return on investment that will be realized within a decade as a result of eliminating over 500 million gallons of I/I annually. The CSO outfall will be lined with a spiral-wound strip of profiled PVC and grouted in place. This technique has not been previously used in the Nashville program, but was selected to minimize surface disturbance in a sensitive wetlands area.
The papers not only represent the efforts of BWSC to advance toward new techniques, but also the personal emphasis Mr. Kurz places on education of others in the profession. He has authored over fifty papers for the civil and environmental engineering industries. Kurz has been with BWSC since 2006 as an Environmental Engineer. |
