Chattanooga, TN – As recently announced in the press, Chattanooga is aggressively pursuing – and succeeding in bringing – new industries to the area. As part of that effort, BWSC worked with the City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, and the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce on the development of the Enterprise South Industrial Park (ESIP). That relationship paid off in a big way with the location of the new Volkswagen plant and now the building of the new Amazon.com distribution facility at ESIP.

“Being a team player with local economic development partners has allowed BWSC the opportunity to be a part of several very important community projects,” states Matt Stovall, Chattanooga Office Manager. “We are very proud of this role of being a trusted advisor on these projects.”

When BWSC originally designed the existing sewage pump station and force main in 2002 as part of the infrastructure improvements for the redevelopment of the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant into ESIP, the size and number of industries that would locate in the park were not known. As a result, BWSC developed a plan for the pump station so it could accommodate low flows initially, but could be upgraded to accommodate larger waste water flows as industries moved in. With the growth occurring, that upgrade has now come due and BWSC has been awarded the contract to provide those services.

The City of Chattanooga has asked BWSC to conduct a sewer basin evaluation, evaluate flow monitoring and sewer modeling data to assess the most appropriate connection point for the upgraded force main, prepare an State Revolving Fund (SRF)-compliant preliminary engineering report, design the pump station and force main upgrades, and provide bidding assistance and engineering services during construction. Additional services that may be added to the scope include surveying, permitting and easement assistance, SRF loan administration, and RPR services.

“These upgrades will better allow the City to respond to current and future industrial growth in the area,” comments Barney Fullington, Director of Water Services. “Our continuing work at ESIP demonstrates the City’s trust in BWSC, and we are excited about the opportunity to assist them with upgrading the ESIP basin collection system.”

Chattanooga’s involvement of BWSC in efforts toward economic development is a great example of how BWSC is striving to become an integral advisor to our strategic clients. This latest project is a team/collaborative effort between the Water Services business unit and the Chattanooga local office, and demonstrates the combined effectiveness of the relationship-building strengths of the local office backed by the depth of experience of the overall business unit.

At BWSC, we believe commitment to our clients’ success consistently leads to our own success. The focused effort toward building solid relationships with clients is the foundation BWSC was built upon and to which we are still dedicated today.
