Dayton, OH – The Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon, Inc. (BWSC) design of the new H-60 Helicopter Hangar at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida, was given an Honorable Mention in the Metal Walls category in the 2010 Metal Construction News Awards. The magazine’s December issue highlighted quality of the facility’s metal walls of the design/build project, completed in 2009. One of 50 entries received by the magazine, a winner was selected in each category of Metal Building, Metal Roofing, Metal Walls, and Overall Project. The BWSC design was among the company of well-known design and construction firms nationwide in the six Honorable Mention awards spotlighted.

The metal materials used in the project were 84,000 square feet of 2-inch, 22-gauge, G-90 galvanized insulated horizontal metal panel system coated in tan Kynar 500. Insulated metal panels were selected for the exterior skin of the building due to its light weight, economy, weather-resistance, and low maintenance characteristics. The design/build project was completed in conjunction with Walbridge general contractors in 2009, and the BWSC effort was led by Project Manager Tom Dues.
