Seattle, WA – The Aviation Group of Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon has been awarded a contract win as a subcontractor to Landry Consulting to conduct a ground-breaking Airport Safety Management System (SMS) implementation study at Sea-Tac International for the Port of Seattle and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The implementation study is to examine how airports implement the elements of the Safety Risk Management and Safety Assurance components of SMS throughout their airfield environment including the movement and non-movement areas. Results of this study conducted by Landry/BWSC will assist the FAA in development of standards and guidance related to SMS for certificated airports across the nation.

“This is a brand new program,” comments Kevin Vandeberg, AAE, project manager for the initiative. “It is a unique opportunity for BWSC to be in on the front end of this nationwide initiative.”

Chris Spann, PE, Aviation Business Director has pulled together a team with Vandeberg at the helm to work on this implementation study. There have only been ten implementations nationwide to date with Sea-Tac being one of those. Both general aviation and commercial carriers will be participating and funding is provided by the FAA.
